SHOKIGATA
"The Pop"

SHOKIGATA
was formed around 2001. For each production, Atsunori
Kawamura selects members from a wide range of fields:
dancers, actors, butoh dancers, street performers,
comedians, visual artists and even waiters. Although
the group mainly performs in downtown theaters in
Tokyo and Yokohama, they freely move from conventional
theater spaces to galleries, weddings, campus festivals,
an evacuation boat and a celebrity’s house
(Mr. Kim Ito).
The name SHOKIGATA, which means prototype in Japanese,
refers to their stance to value initial impulses
in creative processes. Their motto in creation is
“lovable idiot”. Their works depict
dark sides of human nature with a pop art approach.

“DUMB!”
