Founded in 1979, this Sendai-based, 30-year-old
theater company has been presenting pieces written and directed
by Kumiko Tanno in their hometown, neighboring Northeastern
cities and Tokyo. Their signature pieces are vibrant fantasies
depicting various aspects of the relationships between a man
and a woman with a large cast. Tanno’s text and the
music composed and played by Nobuya Tadano intricately weave
the fabric of the deep and strong stories.
They repeatedly revise and perform the same pieces. The results
are the mature and fresh productions. Recently, however, Tanno
has been eager to try new styles, home comedies and small
cast pieces for example, portraying a variety of relationships
among people and not restricted to those between a man and
a woman. |
