A Word from Festival Director

Kunio Sugihara

"Go to Extremes in Winter!"

In the world of haiku, festivals are a season word for summer. In my mind too, they are a summer thing. A festival in winter sounds somewhat awkward. For one thing, it's cold in winter. That is the biggest problem for me. In summer you can easily take off your clothes and get rowdy, but in winter you canÅft. Unless you have a lot of energy, you cannot beat the cold winter. Wait a sec, then, wouldnÅft that mean that festivals in winter are actually even more full of energy? You need to be extremely energetic to knockdown the barriers of coldness. Hey, festivals in winter must be pretty hot then, yes?
YES!!
All right, this is the start of the Extreme Summit. In the cold weather, please come over to our theater full of extreme, hot energy. I am looking forward to seeing you there.
