Award winning totsugeki kingyo is an Osaka-based
theater group founded in 2002 by saringROCK and other former
members of Something, another theater group in Kwansei Gakuin
University. With the one-of-the-kind lines in Kansai dialect,
they create their own rhythm. The world they present is pop,
ennui, laughable and poisonous. It is full of awkward people,
pitiful and lovable, trying so hard. They depict the painful
stories of the social misfits in a daringly light tone. One
cannot help but empathize with those characters affectionately,
if partially, portrayed.
People describe totsugeki kingyo as "girls' rock",
"underground pop", "perverts in love"
or "shameless presentation of female obsessions",
but they aim to create something beyond all these descriptions:
theater no one has ever seen. |
