PORT+PORTAIL
"Old Crocodile"
from Tokyo
Theater
and dance, two different languages are integrated
into one in the highly artistic works of PORT+PORTAIL
(pronounced as poru poru). In 1997, Miya Kim, Michi
Foissotte Hayashi and Ren Motoori, who graduated
from the same high school in Nagano City, founded
the company. With some bumps and detours, the current
formation of choreography by Kim, writing and direction
by Hayashi, and performance by Motoori naturally
came into place. Their activities, which freely
cross over the border between theater and dance,
have been appreciated in both fields, and garnered
awards in numerous competitions. The company has
also appeared in a number of dance events such as
Dance Hakushu. "The Old Crocodile" is
the follow-up to "Reading And Shadow Performance"
which was premiered and received favorable reviews
last year. It is based on the story of the same
title by Léopold Chauveau. This bitter fable of a
crocodile, a hidden gem by Chauveau, will be performed
as an exquisite shadow play for children and adults.
